Skills
________________________
Software skills:
3dsMax: I have been working
with 3dsMax version 5.1 and 6.1 for 2 years for school assignments
and for my own personal fun and for creating meshes for Unreal tournament
2003/2004.
I have acquired good technical understanding of this program as well as decent
theoretical knowledge.
UnrealEd: I have good experience
with UnrealEd 2. and UnrealEd 3.
I have been using this software for about 4 years to create levels for Unreal
Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2004.
I have acquired great technical understanding of this program as well as thorough
theoretical knowledge.
I apreciate any critics on my work so I know what I have to look out for next
time around.
Adobe Photoshop 6/7/CS: I
have been using this program for about 3 years first for school purposes only
later on also for personal interest; I have been using Photoshop for school
assignments,
modifying and manipulating textures and photos for usage in UnrealEd, 3dsMax,
Dreamweaver and a lot more.
Adobe Illustrator CS: I have
been using illustrator with basic knowledge for creating graphics for websites,
school assignments and for fun.
Paint Shop Pro 6/7/8: I have
been using PSP for about 4 years since I didn’t had Photoshop at that
time,
I used it for modifying textures for UnrealEd, School assignments,
Photo manipulating, creating graphics for websites.
Microsoft office: decent knowledge of word, access, excel and powerpoint.
Other software I have worked with:
Dreamweaver, Flash, Authorware, Quarkexpress,
indesign, Imageready, Premiere, soundforge.
Level Design skills:
________________________
I think besides having the right technical skills which i got, you also need
to know the very basics of:
* Gameplay/layout: This is
of course the most important,
And I think I got good knowledge of what makes and breaks a good level when
it comes to gameplay.
When I am working on a level, I will take the time to learn and understand
the gameplay expected
from the chosen gametype, if I don’t have this knowledge already.
I am working on implementing my knowledge in levels, but I am not afraid to
say that I am good at it.
* Detail/Visuals: I think I got good knowledge of how detail can make a map visually appealing and I am able to implement this in my own level designs and there is always room to learn more about this.
* Theme: Every level has
its own theme, and with the theme there comes atmosphere,
with atmosphere comes sound, visuals, interaction and history.
No building, No location, No creature is just there, with them being where
they are,
they come with a great that tells about them, you should feel and see that
time has its toll on buildings,
area’s and levels even if they are placed in the future.
I got good knowledge about how to make a solid themed map and I am able to
use this knowledge
for the levels I created and for the levels still to come.
